Jill Kaplan knew she wanted to work with animals from the time she was an infant, gnawing on the resident Siamese cat’s tail. She started a petsitting service while still in elementary school, did fundraising and volunteer work for the local shelter, and dreamed of working with animals. Her plans were slightly derailed by earning a BA at an almost Ivy League school, and working a series of art-related jobs that did not involve animals. She got back on track and learned how to groom and how not to run a business from a series of people in Baltimore, Durham, and San Antonio. She bought her current business, Dog Stylists, from her favorite boss in Durham, North Carolina, competed a little, learned a lot, and lived poodly ever after
